HEAT training

Get the HEAT! The Home Efficiency Action Training that is.

Are your heating bills too high? Maybe you have allergies or dust sensitivity that never seems to get better? Or you’re too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer? Well there’s a lot of things you can do to make your home more comfortable, healthy, and affordable to heat and cool.  Come check out the HEAT training to learn what you can do yourself and what you should consider hiring professionals to do for you. Take advantage of the award-winning building science knowledge of the Northwest Energy Team for your home.

This free, informative event will give you the basics of home efficiency upgrades. Presenters include Brent Foster from Northwest Infrared, who will talk about their home energy audits, including thermal imaging cameras, blower door tests, and all kinds of cool building science stuff. Paul Ivy with NET will chat about the importance of air sealing and insulation, why proper airflow is crucial, and super efficient ductless heat pumps. South Sound Solar will tell you how to assess if your home is a good candidate for solar power. PSE will talk about their rebate programs, and Randy Seaburg with Generations Credit Union will tell you about their great low interest loans for ductless heat pumps and insulation upgrades to your home.

The idea here is that you start by having a home energy audit done. This will give you a bunch of valuable info on where the weakest areas in your home are. Some, like air sealing are relatively easy for most homeowners to do themselves. Others fixes, like foam insulation and ductless heat pumps, are best left to the professionals. Once you have your “action list” you can decide what to tackle yourself and what to hire out. There are various rebate programs that you might be able to take advantage of, based on several factors including what type of energy audit you do, what type of insulation and heating you have now, and so on. Once you have all your data you can pick the projects that best fit your needs, budget, and rebate criteria.

We do this once a month. Right now all events are on a Thursday evening or a Saturday afternoon. Check the Events listing to see the times and locations.  This a free event so come by and get the HEAT!
